this is an idea i wanted to do, always been a really big fan of the pistol in Blade runner and i wanted to do something like that, a classic looking revolver but with a mix of sci fi stuff.
As for how i went about this, i did a hell of a lot of playing around with the design, just side on profile shots. once i was happy with that, i mocked up a fairly decent 3d model that i used for this illustration.
the original image i did is very large and has a lot of detail in there, i will link a very high res version too for people to look at:
